Weekend Eats

This weekend we didn't cook any meals but we did make a lot of food.

We started the weekend with a soak in the hot tub at the indoor public pool. We placed that activity on the top of every weekend check list.

Then it was off to Whole Foods for some good food and then home to cook it. Scott made us nice big chicken salads with plenty of fresh greens and yummy cheese. While he was make the salads I started on some bread. I like making bread but my loaves always turn out short and dense. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get them to rise?

On Sunday I made some Regis Treats; he was pretty happy about that.

Sunday night we went to Arlington to meet up with some other comic illustrators. Scott was in heaven!

Weekend Fun

I am proud to announce that for the first time in what seems like ages, Scott and I went out on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Friday night was just out to eat at a nice restaurant in our neighborhood. It was a good meal and a nice way for us to wind down from the busy week. Scott likes to leave the waiter with a little parting gift (i.e. the drawing below)

Saturday night was the opening reception for the senior thesis show at The Corcoran. It was a pretty big deal with many people from the general public. The students work was shown in the exhibition space that normally houses traveling collections. It was pretty cool and got Scott excited for his show in a few years.

On Sunday I tried a new recipe for pork and broccoli stir fry. Scott liked it, I wasn't sold. I will try it again with less orange juice next time.

Weekend Eats

Well I don't have a photo but I made beef enchiladas yesterday. There were tasty with ground beef, red and yellow peppers and corn. Simple yet scrumptious.

I didn't make a treat this weekend. I wasn't feeling so hot so I mostly stayed on the couch.

BUT I did finish cutting out the main fabric for the top I am sewing. Just three more pieces to cut and then it's sew time.

Weekend Eats

Last weekend I wasn't feeling very motivated, so I just made pasta carbonara with Parmesan chicken. For dessert I made a lemon cream pie, wowzers was it tart!

The pasta recipe was found in an old issue of Real Simple (my addiction) and is pretty simple. It's just pasta with a parmesan based sauce. The chicken was just coated in a flour Parmesan mixture and cooked on the stove top.

The lemon cream pie recipe was found in this months Real Simple (told you I am addicted) I also Pinned it so if you follow me over there take a look. The recipe was pretty simple. I had never made a cream pie before but figured it couldn't be too hard. Pretty much just like cheesecake: mix, pour, bake and wait. The pie turned out fairly tart so next time I am going to cut down on the lemon zest. The recipe would work with limes or oranges too.
